How to fill in each field
Subject line
Say 'order confirmed' and include the order number for easy inbox search.
Common mistake: A vague subject that doesn't reassure the customer the order went through.
Order summary
Itemize products, quantities and a clear total (subtotal, shipping, tax, paid).
Common mistake: Omitting the price breakdown, prompting billing questions.
Shipping & delivery
Show the shipping address, method and estimated delivery date.
Common mistake: No ETA or address confirmation, driving 'where's my order?' tickets.
Support & changes
Tell them how and by when they can change or cancel the order.
Common mistake: No support path, so issues escalate or turn into chargebacks.

Frequently asked questions
What should an order confirmation email include?+
The order number and date, an itemized summary with totals (subtotal, shipping, tax, amount paid), the shipping address and estimated delivery, a link to track the order, and how to get support or make changes.
When should a confirmation email be sent?+
Immediately after the order is placed — it's an expected transactional email, and prompt delivery reassures the customer the purchase succeeded.
Can I include marketing in a confirmation email?+
Keep the transactional details front and center. A light, relevant recommendation is fine lower down, but transactional emails are primarily for confirmation, not promotion.
