Sales Order Template

A sales order is the seller's internal confirmation of a customer order — created after you accept a purchase order or quote, before you invoice. It locks in what was agreed: items, prices, quantities, delivery and terms. This template gives you that record so fulfillment and billing stay aligned.

How to fill in each field

Order & PO reference

Assign a sales order number and reference the customer's PO if any.

Common mistake: No linkage to the PO, breaking order tracking.

Confirmed items & prices

List exactly what was agreed — items, quantities and prices.

Common mistake: Discrepancies with the PO/quote that surface at invoicing.

Delivery date

State the agreed ship/deliver-by date for fulfillment.

Common mistake: No delivery date, causing fulfillment confusion.

Status

Track the order status (confirmed, fulfilled, invoiced) internally.

Common mistake: No status, so it's unclear what's been shipped or billed.
