Invoice Template for Word

Prefer Word to a spreadsheet? Download this .docx invoice, type over the sample lines, and you're done. It opens cleanly in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice and Pages, and exports to a locked PDF for sending. Word won't total for you, so we've kept the layout simple to add up by hand — or use the Excel version if you want automatic math.

How to fill in each field

Edit in Word

Open the .docx and type over the sample text. The table keeps its formatting.

Common mistake: Editing a read-only preview instead of the downloaded file.

Totals

Word doesn't calculate — add the amounts and enter the subtotal, tax and total.

Common mistake: Expecting auto-math in Word; use the Excel version if you want that.

Save as PDF

File → Save As → PDF (or Export) to send a locked, professional copy.

Common mistake: Emailing the editable .docx, which a client could alter.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make an invoice in Word?+

Start from this .docx template, replace the business, client and line-item text, add up the totals, then save as PDF to send. That's faster than building a table from scratch.

Does the Word invoice calculate totals?+

Will the .docx open in Google Docs or Pages?+

Yes. The file opens and stays formatted in Google Docs, Apple Pages and LibreOffice, as well as Microsoft Word.
