How to fill in each field
Call-out fee
Show the call-out/diagnostic fee as its own line so it's transparent.
Common mistake: Hiding the call-out in labor, which surprises customers.
Labor & parts
Bill labor as hours × rate and parts separately with descriptions.
Common mistake: A single 'repair' figure customers can't verify.
License number
Include your plumbing license; many areas require it on the invoice.
Common mistake: Omitting the license, which can void or delay payment.
Tax base
Apply tax per local rules — often parts are taxed, labor may not be.
Common mistake: Taxing labor where it isn't taxable, overcharging.

Frequently asked questions
What should a plumbing invoice include?+
Your business and license number, the customer and site, the call-out fee, labor as hours × rate, parts with descriptions, tax on the correct base, and the total.
Should plumbers charge a call-out fee?+
Most do, to cover travel and diagnosis. Show it as a clearly labeled separate line so customers understand it's distinct from the repair labor.
Is labor taxable on a plumbing invoice?+
It depends on your jurisdiction — many tax parts but not labor. List them separately and apply tax to the taxable base.
